Rene Caisse Paintings

"Now, like Grandma Moses, I paint pictures.  Many, many oil paintings, trying to forget that which I know I can never forget--that I know a cure for cancer, and that I can never give it to the world, and must each day see the misery of the patients."  [Rene Caisse quote from I Was Canada's Cancer Nurse]

The paintings on this page were painted by Rene Caisse.  The seven paintings below are for sale by Barbara Kokotsis who personally knew Rene Caisse and Mary McPherson.  Background information and contact information is given below.  Mrs. Kokotsis plans to put these paintings on display at the Rene M. Caisse Theater in Bracebridge, Ontario this spring (2013).

"My first encounter with Mary McPherson and Rene Caisse was in the spring of 1977.  They fell in love with our menu [at their "Apollo" restaurant].  Rene favoured N.Y. Striploin on a whole wheat bun and Mary loved a grilled cheddar sandwich, nice and soft for her aching teeth.  It didn't take long for us to become friends and with it the knowledge about Rene's life and Essiac and Mary McPherson's role as an assistant.  [Picture of "Apollo" restaurant on right]

"Mary had a big family, and therefore patronized our restaurant more frequently than Rene.  Mary taught me how to identify different herbs and as a result I collected some of these herbs for her on my daily walks.  Mary and myself prepared Essiac many times together.  I got very good at it, so people came to me for help, about a friend or family member in need.  So I prepared some Essiac for them.

"In the summer of 1978 I also met Sherry Bates, who also became a good friend.  She stayed with me (us) the entire summer.  Later in the fall she opened a "Cancer Helpline" office in Toronto.  Sherry Bates was a fanatic enthusiast about Essiac.  We stayed in contact through telephone calls.  When Rene Caisse died in 1978, Sherry Bates came up from Toronto for the funeral.  After a few days some of her estate was for sale, incl. the paintings.  I acquired 7 and Sherry (I believe) 2.  The only ones for sale.  After Rene Caisse's death, I continued my friendship with Mrs. McPherson until her death." -- Barbara Kokotsis

"We all have the right to benefit from Essiac because no one can stop us making it, no one can stop us taking it and no one can stop us deciding how and when we're going to do it."  [THE ESSIAC BOOK by Mali Klein, 2006]

Below are two more examples of Rene Caisse's paintings.  Theses two paintings below are not for sale and are not associated with Mrs. Kokotsis.
