SACRED TREE SOCIETY CRANE CLAN
Crane Clan
East
In our tradition the Crane is the bird that first came to the back of the turtle that rose up from the sea. The Crane took the little shell from the otter and threw it up in the air where it fell down on the turtle’s back and became the first home of the Anishinobe. When the Crane stands on the back of the turtle in the morning sun it’s shadow looks like a Pembina (high bush cranberry bush), our (little People's) sacred tree.
In the Crane’s bundle is something that to the Crane Clan represents all of these things and all of the attributes mentioned above. The keeper of this bundle is the speaker for the Crane Clan.
The Crane Clan keeps the people happy in the long house and carries and arranges the building of the house for the people. Its honor is it is the first clan to speak in grand council.
The Crane Clan's ceremonial duties are to prepare the first festival of early spring.
