The Otter represents the First Anishinabe, the people of First Agreement swimming in the ocean, finding rest on the back of the turtle playing with Crane, Rattle Snake, and Salmon under the Sacred Tree, finding a first home under Little Shell.
In the Otter's bundle is something that to the Otter Clan represents all of these things and all of the attributes mentioned above. The keeper of this bundle is the speaker for the Otter Clan.
The Otter Clan keeps the oral traditions and history of the First house of the Sacred Tree Society, of the Anishinabe of the Pembina Little Shell Band of North America. Its honor is to maintain harmony and balance in the body of the people.
Otter Clan’s ceremonial responsibility is to prepare the early winter ceremony.
